It can be tricky to find makeup that works well with older skin. I’ve tried lots, and I’m sad to say that the older I get, the more money I have to spend. Drugstore foundations don’t work for me any more, and heaven forbid I try to use an inexpensive mascara. Of course, my view on this is subjective, but I do believe there are products upon which you have to spend, and those on which you can scrimp a bit. Here are three fantastic products that don’t cost a fortune.
As I mentioned, I have to spend a decent amount on foundation, but on brow products, I can save loads and not compromise on quality. The Sleek Brow Kit, £8.49, comes in five flattering colours and works just as well as its more expensive counterparts. With a powder and a setting wax, it makes quick work of shaping and defining brows. The kit also includes two decent brushes and a set of mini tweezers.
I’ve tried many mascaras, but I’ve yet to find a budget one that works for me. I have, though, found that I don’t need to spend a lot on lip pencils. At £4, Avon’s Glimmerstick Lip Liner is one of the best I’ve tried. Available in nine easy-to-wear colours and enriched with vitamin E, these work very well on mature lips and don’t accentuate vertical lines or lip texture.
Face powder is another product I can’t seem to find reasonably-priced as most leave my skin looking a bit chalky and old, but lip colour is where I can make big savings. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, £5.50, is an absolute steal of a liquid lipstick. There are a whopping 45 colour choices and the formula is brilliant. It wears for hours and is easy to apply. If you have sensitive lips, I’d recommend using lip balm as a primer with these. They can be a touch drying.
