Big Hair

Having grown up in Alabama in the 80s, I know a thing or two about big hair.  It’s not as fashionable as it once was, but I’m still a fan.  Even through the board-straight, flat-haired Rachel-from-Friends years, I loved big hair. There are a few ways to achieve big hair, but I’ve found the easiest and least damaging way is to use a lifting spray.  For the last year or so, my favourite has been SachaJuan Volume Powder, £22.  Just a couple of sprays of this product directly on the roots of your hair gives it tremendous lift and volume, and the effect lasts pretty much all day.   They also do a version for dark hair, and while it doesn’t leave behind the annoying white powder, it also doesn’t work nearly as well.  The trick is to ‘floof’ it with your fingers until the powder disappears.  If the whiteness doesn’t go away once you’ve worked it into you hair, you’ve used too much. If you’re after a cheaper version that works just as well, I …

Five Fantastic Products for under £5

Who doesn’t love a bargain?  Here are five products worth far more than their price. Garnier Body Tonic Sugar Scrub is an absolute steal at £3.49.  It smells lovely and it removes rough, dead skin better than products three times its price.  It leaves my skin feeling soft and toned – never dry or uncomfortable.  It’s my favourite for my weekly Saturday scrub ritual. When I first purchased this product, I had no idea it wasn’t designed for my hair type (fine, dry, and slightly limp), and I’m glad, because knowing might have put me off and I would have missed the best deep conditioning treatment at this price point.  ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner costs just £4.07 for a generous 362ml bottle.  I apply it after shampooing, place a plastic shopping bag over my hair (oh, the glamour!), and wait about 20 minutes before rinsing.  I’m left with shiny, healthy hair that feels moisturised and hydrated. Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm has been a favourite of mine for many years.  I have tubes of this stuff …

Repurchased Haircare

My ultimate endorsement for a product is repurchasing it.  With so many options around, to find something and honestly believe there is nothing better says more about a product than any advertising.  I’ve put together a small list of haircare products I always buy. Schwarzkopf Bonacure Light Finishing Treatment is essential if you have mature hair.  Just a drop rubbed between the palms and then distributed through lengths adds an incredible amount of shine which makes hair look more youthful.  I like to use it before combing out wet hair as I find it helps to detangle, but you can easily use it on dry hair as well.  Just remember that less is definitely more with this product.  The slightest bit too much will leave hair looking oily and limp. For adding volume, I love Sachajuan’s Volume Powder.  Just a light spray onto roots gives tremendous volume and lift which lasts all day.  I like to spray my roots, tip my head forward, and then massage my scalp like I’m using dry shampoo.  The result …
