Daytime Skincare, 3 Easy Steps

Since simplifying my nighttime skincare routine, my skin is much healthier and happier. I  embraced a more refined approach my day time regime a year ago, simply to cut down on time spent in the morning.  My skin has benefitted from using just three products, and whether I’m wearing makeup or not, my skin looks and feels good. Step one: Hydrator. My favourite is Hada Labo Guko-Jyun Premium Emulsion. It contains five kinds of hyaluronic acid and is quickly absorbed by the skin. You can also add this as a first step to your nighttime skincare if you feel your skin is extra sensitive or dehydrated. Step two: Serum. I’ve been using Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S Serum for years and I’ve never found one I like better. It hydrates and soothes skin while plumping fine lines and giving the skin a youthful glow. If you have dry or dehydrated skin, you’ll love this serum. Step three: Moisturiser. Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre is another product I repurchase again and again. It’s a great moisturiser and makeup primer, and …

Rescue and Recovery

I’m just getting over the first cold I’ve had in years, and I have to say that my skin didn’t handle it well. Three days of decongestants, nose blowing and feeling tearful left my skin in a bad state. It was dehydrated, dry and chapped in a few places. Time for a bit of TLC. The skin around my nose was raw and peeling, despite my use of ‘luxury’ tissues, so needed something to soothe and repair. For this, I used Mama Mio Keep Calm nipple balm, £12. Patted onto irritated skin, it immediately soothes, moisturises, and prevents further peeling. It also acts as barrier to protect skin from additional irritation and damage. It’s all-natural, unscented, and works extremely well on chapped skin and lips. I’m never without a tube in the medicine cabinet. As expected, the skin on my eyelids flared up and became quite scaly and uncomfortable. To get it back under control, I slathered both lids in DHC Concentrated Eye Cream, £27.90. This lovely, light-but-effective cream contains olive oil and squalane to combat dryness. It …

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Hydrating Cream

Last January, and almost overnight, my skin became dry, irritated, and very sore.  My eyelids  were particularly bad, which led to case after case of conjunctivitis.  It was as if my skin’s moisture barrier had completely broken down, and no matter what skincare I used, my skin couldn’t seem to retain moisture.  I had to stop wearing makeup completely, and could only use the mildest creams. It’s no exaggeration to say that Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Hydrating Cream saved my skin.  The first few applications seemed to make my skin instantly happy, so I continued slathering it on my face several times a day.  It took about a week, but the rawness began to disappear and my skin felt restored.  After two weeks, it was almost back to normal. While I can’t claim that this product medically cured my skin, it certainly kept it comfortable and hydrated during the healing process.  Hada Labo products don’t contain fragrance, petrochemicals, or alcohol, so they’re unlikely to cause irritation.  The Super Hyaluronic Hydrating Cream also doesn’t contain any heavy oils, so it’s great …

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Moisturising Lotion

When I first bought this product, I had no idea what to do with it.  I was seduced by the promise of three types of hyaluronic acid and no fragrance, but surprised by the almost-watery consistency of this ‘lotion’.  If I’d researched it a bit further, I would have discovered that Hada Labo’s motto is ‘no more, no less’, which, when you think about it, is a fabulous skincare philosophy.  Everything you need and nothing you don’t. Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturising Lotion isn’t marketed as an essence, but that’s how I use it.  If you’re not familiar with essences, let me be the first to tell you that they are an essential part of a good skincare routine, especially if you suffer from dehydrated skin.  Essences are gently patted onto the face right after cleansing, and add vital moisture back to the skin.  Think of it as a tall, cool glass of water for your skin, and you’ll understand why I love essences, especially this one. Effectiveness: 5 – immediately hydrates skin. User Experience: 5 …
