Lip Colour for Sensitive Lips

It’s the time of year when I have to give up a lot of makeup I enjoy.  Cold winter air coupled with central heating makes my skin super-sensitive, and it becomes intolerant to just about everything.  My lips can become so chapped that it leads to cheilitus – a painful inflammation that can last for weeks.  Because of this, lovely matt lipsticks are off the menu until late Spring, but that doesn’t mean tinted lip balms only.  There are some great lip colour formulas available that help nourish and protect lips while looking lovely. It’s no surprise that Perricone’s No Lipstick Lipstick, £25.00, is on my list.  I love so many of their products, and this one is no exception.  Because it’s skincare combined with makeup, it provides great protection while delivering a good colour payoff.  The formula is soft and moisturising, but annoyingly, only available  in one colour.  It’s still very pretty – perfect for a natural, nude look. If you need a bit more colour, try Zelen’s Lip Glaze, £29.00.  Collagen-building and full of antioxidants, this …

Three Foundations for Mature Skin

Upon observing my maturing skin in a magnifying mirror, I’m always surprised by the small age spots, enlarged pores, fine lines, and general crepiness, especially around my eyes.  My instinct is to cover it all up with the thickest foundation possible, but that’s not always a good idea with mature skin.  Heavy foundation doesn’t hide time.  In fact, it can be cakey and ageing, swapping one set of problems for another.  But there is hope!  I’ve found three foundations that play nicely with mature skin. If you’re looking for light coverage, you’ll not find a better foundation than Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum, £45.00.  It’s feather-light and makes skin look bare-but-beautiful. Use this one over a blurring primer for a flawless-but-natural skin effect.  Perfect for weekends, trips to the newsagent, or dog walking – any time you want to look good, but not done.  Best applied with fingers. For medium coverage, It Cosmetics’s Your Skin But Better CC Cream, $38.00, is my everyday go-to.  It seems to hover just over the skin and never shows off pores, …

Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturiser

I’ve said in the past that you don’t need to spend a lot on a moisturiser.  It’s my belief that serious investment is better placed in serums and facial oils as they’re more easily able to penetrate skin to deliver nutrients, anti-ageing ingredients and antioxidants.  For me, moisturiser is about protection and comfort, and there are plenty of great ones available that don’t cost a fortune. So why do I love Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturiser so much?  At just over £49, it’s not cheap, and I have used plenty of less-expensive moisturisers that work well.  Just not as well.  This might actually be my Holy Grail moisturiser – no small feat as I am notoriously fussy when spending this much money on a product. It contains a lot of wonderful ingredients like vitamins C and E,  alpha lipoic acid, wheat protein, glycerine and kukui nut oil.  But it’s what it does on the skin that impresses me.  It’s light – almost like a lotion in a cream form.  It sinks into the skin quickly and makes mine look instantly …

Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum

As I’ve aged, I’ve had to take a less-is-more approach to makeup.  Sure, the 1980’s full-on cake-face makeup of my teen years was toned down some time ago, but I’ve had to really lighten my hand since hitting my mid-40s.  Full-coverage foundation doesn’t work for me any more – it looks heavy and it can gather in the fine lines around my eyes.  That isn’t a good look and can be very ageing. There are several brands of makeup on the market now that double up as skincare, and not just in the SPF sense.  A few actually benefit your skin, and in this time-starved world, what could be better? Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum moisturises, evens out the skin tone, and provides sun protection of a whopping SPF 30.  And because it’s a thin serum, it never looks heavy and it doesn’t settle into lines and wrinkles.  You don’t even have to colour match it because it adapts to your skin tone.  It is truly a faff-free multitasker.  I wear it almost every …
